26 October 2007 Wow! What a start to the season we are having. 6 games played, 4 away and only 2 at home. Home this weekend then another 2 away. Gonna forget where the Old Parish is soon. This week we are at home to Cross keys, gonna be a tough one, as they all are for the rest of the season. So far at home we have drawn one (Ebbw Vale) and marginaly lost to Neath in the 85th minute. We need to get some results soon. We certainly seem to be picking up a few injuries as the season goes on. This week we are hoping Gareth Owen will be back in the team, also having his league debut in the centre will be Scott Robinson.and on the bench and hoping to come on will be Dai Protchard from Bridgend Athletic. heres the full line up:- 15. Nathan Trowbridge 14. Jason Howells 13. Mike Davies 12. Scott Robinson 11. Lenny Woodard 10. Gareth Owen 9. Kevin Ellis 1. Gareth Edwards 2. Lee Williams 3. Craig Hopkins 4. Paul Jones 5. Paul Clapham 6 Phil Wheeler 8. Karl Hocking 7. Ian Boobyer Replacements: Tom Hearne, Gareth Thomas, Mathew Davies, Paul Morgan, Dai Pritchard, Jon Rimmer, Paul Smithson. C'MON THE PARISH

From Coach Gareth Brown:-
Having sat back and watched the comments on our website with regard to the ongoing saga concerning Gavin Ronan i feel it is now time to make some observations of my own.
Maesteg R F C is a great club which this season celebrates it`s 130th Anniversary and the 25th Anniversary of it`s famous draw against the 1982 New Zealand Maoris. In recent seasons following an immense amount of committment both on and off the field we have attained Premier division status once again with Neath being the only team we have not defeated.
This was achieved on the back of a great team spirit and a belief in ourselves and our destiny.
I would confidently say, without fear of contradiction, that our pack is one of the best in this division. Toward the end of last season we added to that strength by signing Paul Morgan and Paul Clapham, and their inclusion, considering the high number of injuries we had, was of paramount importance to us.
Gavin Ronan is a Maesteg boy and has been an integral and important part of our squad since joining from Maesteg Harlequins. He still is, as far as i, Kevan Tee, Allan Bateman, Wally Stephenson, Carl Yardley, our director of rugby, Colin Hopkins and our team manager Christian Thomas is concerned.
We want talented Maesteg players to be playing for The Old Parish. If however there is an opportunity for that player to play at higher level, in a proffessional setting, then we would be the first to shake his hand and wish him well, but purely for rugby reasons, a sideways move is different thing. We understand that other clubs, including Swansea, are looking around for quality players, as are we, but not if they are under contract elsewhere. There will be a healthy competition in the second row this season, and i am sure with short or long term injuries ( god forbid after the last campaign), everyone will get their chance, as you cannot complete a premier season with the same two second rows playing week in week out.
This is where a strong bench comes in as the All Blacks proved against South Africa on Saturday. We expect everyone to fight for their place this season, no matter what position they play in, and with regards to the second row it will be between Gavin Ronan,Paul Clapham, Paul Morgan,Paul Jones and Alex Peever, and may the best men win. Put your hands up those who want to wear one the most famous jerseys in World Rugby!.
Gavin Ronan has a two year contact, with one year to run. We want him, and expect him to honour it.
Gareth Brown, Head Coach, Maesteg R F C.
